LWF World Service finances in 2021

Holding a Zewo certification since 2019, LWF World Service is committed to handling finances with integrity, accountability and transparency. Donors can trust that their support reaches the communities that are most in need. In 2021, LWF World Service’s income was 155 million Euros. 89% of the expenditure was allocated to our operations.

Income

During the year, the funding grew by 14% from 136 million Euros in 2020 to 155 million Euros in 2021.

Expenditure

Our total expenditure for the year was €147 million. Coordination expenditure in Geneva was only 4% (€5.8 million) of the global expenditure while 96% (€141.2 million) of the expenditure was dedicated to field projects.

Disclosure of expenditure classification

In order to provide additional  disclosures  required by the Swiss ZEWO certification (Zentralstelle für Wohlfahrtsunternehmen), specific schedules have been added to the consolidated  financial audit statements.

Income by donors

43.8% (€68 million) of the income was generated from Augusta Victoria hospital in Jerusalem, 21.9% (€34 million) of the income was generated from our Related Organizations, 16.8% (€26 million) from United Nations agencies and 16.8% (€15 million) from Government donors. LWF World Service also received 1.3% (€2 million) from ecumenical partners and LWF Member Churches and 0.7% (€1 million) from other international organizations. In addition, non-project income represents 5.8% (€9 million) of the global LWF World Service income.

Expenditure by Strategic Objectives

In line with our 2019-2024 strategic goals, 22% of the expenditure went into Quality Services, 13% into Livelihoods and Protection, 13% as well into Social Cohesion, and 3% into Systems and Practices for Quality Programming.  In addition, Augusta Victoria Hospital  accounted for 45% of the expenditure, while for 4% went into non-project expenditure.
