The COVID-19 pandemic was caused by an outbreak of Coronavirus disease, first identified in China's Wuhan province in December 2019 before spreading to countries across the globe. It was officially declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation on 11 March 2020.

As communities around the world introduced strict quarantine measures to try and control the spread of the virus, LWF offered support to its member churches and country programs, as well as prayers and reflections on the impact of the disease on individuals and societies.
