Looking forward to gathering as a global communion

(LWI) – In a letter sent to member churches, The Lutheran World Federation (LWF), General Secretary Anne Burghardt called for nominations of delegates to the Thirteenth LWF Assembly, which will take place in Krakow, Poland, from 13 to 19 September 2023.

“I look very much forward to our gathering as a global communion,” Burghardt wrote. “May it be an occasion to experience that in Christ, all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17)

The deadline for submitting nominations is 31 May 2022. Nominations will be done online.

Depending on their number of members, churches can nominate between one delegate (for churches with fewer than 50.000 members) and up to seven representatives (for churches with more than 6 million members). Churches should adhere to the quota of 40 percent men, 40 percent women, and 20 percent youth.

“I urge the member churches to take note of the gender and generational balance, which LWF member churches have jointly committed to observing when we meet as a communion,” Burghardt wrote. “By adhering to this commitment as individual churches,” the LWF member churches can “collectively comply with this shared commitment,” she added.
