Liturgical calendar available as an app
(LWI) – Any pastor or layperson planning worship services as well as people generally interested in following the rhythm of the church year can now find mobile assistance. Launched on the first Sunday in Advent this year, a new mobile device application, or app, called “Kirchenjahr evangelisch” provides resources for Lutheran worship.
Users of the app can listen to readings in the latest version of the Luther Bible on their mobile devices and also hear hymns selected for the occasion. The section “Glaube im Alltag” (faith in daily life) contains ideas on planning the day or the whole week. Users can also receive a text message reminding them of special church festivals.
Making this liturgical content available as an app is a way of broadening the website which has been providing liturgical resources for Protestant church services for the past three years.
The app provides the text of all the set passages and hymns according to the “Ordnung gottesdienstlicher Texte und Lieder” (order of readings and hymns for worship) used in the Lutheran churches in Germany. In addition, three more sections offer suggestions and information for each Sunday and church holiday. “Die Kernaussage” (the core statement) sums up the topic of the day in one sentence. “Das Wesentliche” (the essence) offers a short interpretation of the text of the day. “Glaube im Alltag” (faith in daily life) gives tips on making something of the day or the whole week.
Making this liturgical content available as an app is a way of broadening the website which has been providing liturgical resources for Protestant church services for the past three years. It is a joint project of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany (VELKD), whose member churches are also members of The Lutheran World Federation (LWF).
The app “Kirchenjahr evangelisch” is available free of charge in the AppStore or from GooglePlay. Information and advertising materials, posters and postcards can be ordered from www.kirchenjahr-evangelisch.de/mitmachen.
