Bavarian campaign encourages learning and action on SDGs

(LWI) – With an online campaign that runs from 17 January to 17 May, Mission EineWelt from Germany invites people to participate in a local, national, and international journey to discover the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mission EineWelt is the center for partnership, development, and mission of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria and a long-standing partner of The Lutheran World Federation (LWF).

The campaign titled “17 Weeks, 17 Goals” spotlights one SDG every week.

The bilingual campaign website (German and English) offers interactive opportunities to share ideas on implementing the SDGs and collecting actions in local communities, in church congregations, or by individuals.

Also, each week a four-minute video interview is posted. It features a participant from Mission EineWelt’s volunteer program speaking to a political representative from Germany, asking them what they are doing to implement the SDG designated for the respective week.

“Politicians must take action and implement the SDGs on a grand scale with effective programs and laws,” said Dorcas Parsalaw, head of studies at Mission EineWelt.

Moreover, the SDGs “concern us all,” Parsalaw added. “They concern all of us, who stand up for a better world, for the one world, based on our faith, in our daily work and our voluntary commitment and also together with international partners.”

With the campaign “17 Weeks, 17 Goals”, Mission EineWelt supports the LWFs “Waking the Giant” initiative, which aims to activate and mobilize churches worldwide for the implementation of the SDGs.
