The following eligibility criteria apply to LWF Small-scale climate justice projects led by youth:
- Eligibility of project holder:
- Any LWF member church is eligible to apply.
- Priority will be given to projects led by young people (30 years old or younger) from LWF member churches.
- The initiative should be locally designed and implemented, ensuring it responds to the specific needs and context of the community.
- A letter of endorsement from the leadership of the respective LWF member church is required.
- Each member church may submit only one application.
- Eligibility of project concept:
- The proposed project should make a meaningful contribution to advancing climate justice at the local or national level. It should be firmly rooted in the lived realities of communities, reflecting their priorities, challenges, and knowledge, while upholding the principles of justice, equity, and environmental stewardship.
- Projects are expected to be realistic and well-defined, with clear objectives, activities, and expected results. Priority will be given to initiatives that demonstrate innovation, are led or actively involve young people, and show strong community engagement. Projects that contribute to reducing carbon emissions or strengthening community resilience are particularly encouraged.
- Examples:
- Launching community-based campaigns before COP31 focusing on either reducing carbon emissions or strengthening community resilience, ideally combining both. This may include promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency through community-led awareness and practical measures to reduce consumption, promote sustainable mobility options like cycling, shared transport, or other low-emission alternatives, ecosystem restoration, and improved waste management including recycling, composting, and circular economy practices.
- On the resilience side, projects can support water security through rainwater harvesting, conservation practices, and protection of local sources, access to clean cooking solutions, and community learning or capacity-building—especially for youth and women.
- These examples are not exhaustive, and applicants are encouraged to propose innovative solutions that are grounded in the local context and respond to the needs and priorities of their communities.
- Maximum amount requested to LWF: EUR 2,000 per project.
- Project duration: from July 2026 until January 2027.
The following screening and approval criteria apply to eligible applications:
The application must:
- Be fully completed, including budget and LWF member church endorsement;
- Demonstrate convincingly the relevance of the project’s objectives and activities concerning climate justice action;
- Preference will be given to projects that are both led and implemented by young people from an LWF member church;
- Show that the scope of the project’s objectives and activities in relation to the budget and the capacity of the applicant is realistic.
Regional balance in the allocation of grants will be observed, depending on the available resources.
Applications must be sent by email to [email protected] under the subject “Youth Climate Project”.
