Tragedy, Hope and Ecotheology: Perspectives on Lutheran and Ecumenical Ecotheology
Tragedy, Hope and Ecotheology: Perspectives on Lutheran and Ecumenical Ecotheology
Public lecture and discussion on eco-theology
Dr. theol. Panu Pihkala (University of Helsinki, Lutheran Church of Finland) will present key themes from his extensive research on twentieth-century eco-theology. The main topics will be tragedy and hope. Historical insights from the ecumenical movement and Lutheran tradition will be discussed in the light of contemporary challenges, such as eco-anxiety and climate change.
Dr. Pihkala is finishing research for a book, Early Ecumenical Ecotheology (1948-1975). His volume on Joseph Sittler and ecotheology from 1900 to 1954 will be published next year by LIT Verlag.
Pihkala’s main field of study is ecumenics and systematic theology, but he combines elements from many disciplines, such as environmental history, education and psychology.
You are cordially invited to join the lecture and the following discussion to be held in salle 1 of the Ecumenical Center, Route de Ferney 150, Geneva.
