Pre-Assemblies - Latin America, the Caribbean, North America
The LAC and North America Pre-Assemblies is an opportunity for LWF member churches to prepare for the upcoming LWF Assembly. Looking towards 500 years of the Reformation, the churches will reflect on their Lutheran identity, review the pilgrimage from the last Assembly, look at the ways in which the churches have witnessed the gospel in different contexts and envision how to keep fulfiling God’s mission in society.
Attendees will propose delegates to be the next set of LWF leaders.
Pre-assemblies prepare delegates for meaningful participation in the Assembly itself. Delegates will become familiar with the Assembly themes, identify areas relevant to their work and to the environment within which they work, nominate candidates for the LWF Council, contribute to the Self-Understanding of the Lutheran Communion process, as well as work to build relationships among themselves. Furthermore, they will prepare delegates to address critical, controversial issues and ensure constructive and pastoral dialogue on these issues.
Assembly delegates will synthesize the main issues and themes to ensure substantive and enlightened discussions during the Assembly, which will ultimately help the Assembly achieve its objectives.
The meeting includes an open forum on the Sustainable Development Goals and a women’s meeting, developed with Women in Church and Society, part of the Department for Theology and Public Witness.
