LWF at UN Commission on the Status of Women
30th anniversary of Beijing Platform for Action
The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) will participate in this year’s session of the Commission on the Status of Women, marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing World Conference on Women which culminated in the Beijing Platform for Action.
Participants will focus on progress made over the past three decades since the drawing up of the document, considered a blueprint for advancing women’s rights around the globe. The Commission will also review obstacles to its implementation and consider new challenges to the full empowerment of women and girls.
With both in person and online participation, LWF will hold side events, including the launch of a report showcasing 12 promising practices that have been developed by member churches and country programs to implement the Beijing Platform for Action. The event will also feature the reflections of 3 women who were at the Beijing Conference in 1995, as well as 9 gender justice advocates who have been part of LWF delegations to CSW over the years.
