Week of Prayer

Christian churches, congregations and individuals in many parts of the globe participate in the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity which originated over a century ago.

Celebrated from 18 to 25 January (or around the feast of Pentecost in some parts of the world), the Week of Prayer is organized by the World Council of Churches in partnership with the Vatican's Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity. Each year, they invite an ecumenical group in a particular country or region to prepare resources that can be shared and used for different kinds of ecumenical initiatives during the octave of prayer.

LWF urges all member churches to take part in this annual celebration in response to the prayer of Jesus at the Last Supper, when he said: ‘That they may be one, just as we are one’ (John 17:22).
