World Humanitarian Day
World Humanitarian Day, observed annually on 19 August, invites the global community to honour the courage and sacrifice of humanitarian workers worldwide.
In 2024 alone, the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) served 2.5 million people in need through a strong network of over 6,600 staff. The majority of them come from—and live in—the very communities they serve, reflecting our commitment to local expertise and solidarity.
Humanitarian service lies at the heart of the LWF communion. On this day, we honour the dedication of LWF staff working in crisis-affected areas around the world—For Hope and a Future.
