World Refugee Day

World Refugee Day is marked by the international community each year on 20 June. At LWF we take an active part in this annual event, mindful of that fact that our federation was established in response to the suffering of millions of people, many of them refugees, in the wake of World War II.

Supporting refugees and host communities continues to be at the heart of our work through our member churches and World Service programs. In 2020 alone, we served more than one million refugees and one million people in host communities, as well as some 400,000 internally displaced people, through activities in over 27 countries worldwide.

The focus of our work remains as clear today as when we were founded in 1947: it is always on the people we serve, whether they are refugees, internally displaced people, returnees, host communities or communities at risk.
