Abound in Hope

(LWI) - The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) has published its Annual Report 2024, documenting a year marked by global crises, renewed strategic direction, and hope-filled witness across its global communion. Under the theme "Abound in Hope" (Romans 15:13), the report reflects a year of connecting churches worldwide, engaging in theological discourse, working for unity, serving people in need, and advocating for justice and peace. The report is anchored in the new LWF Strategy 2025–2031, which frames the global communion's work in theology, service, communion relations, and advocacy.

The first part of the report is a month-by-month overview of key moments in the life of the communion, followed by thematic sections that reflect the scope of the LWF’s global engagement. These feature key activities of the program, as well as local voices and stories from communities and partners working on the front lines of mission and service.

Reflect the richness of the Lutheran communion

The publication also introduces the new LWF Strategy 2025–2031: Sharing Hope – Empowering Churches, Impacting the World, and the LWF World Service Global Strategy, which will guide LWF’s humanitarian and development work through a rights-based, locally led approach that affirms the agency and resilience of people in need.

Abounding in hope is not a passive stance; it is a deliberate and practical commitment to act, grounded in faith, expressed through service.

In many images, the report recalls meetings and consultations, depicting the diversity and vitality of the Lutheran communion across the world, and its witness in a world full of challenges. In their joint foreword, LWF President Bishop Henrik Stubkjær and General Secretary Rev. Dr Anne Burghardt write: “Abounding in hope is not a passive stance; it is a deliberate and practical commitment to act, grounded in faith, expressed through service.”
