(LWI) - Applications for the international Certificate in Climate Justice and Faith are now open. The joint initiative between The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and the Center for Climate Justice and Faith at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (USA) is aimed at strengthening the leadership of ordained and lay people committed to climate action within their local faith communities.
The course, which will be delivered entirely online between September 2026 and May 2027, is designed for lay leaders and clergy, especially from LWF member churches and from communities most affected by climate change. The deadline for applications is 10 June 2026.
The training includes a cohort-based approach to foster learning, exchange of experiences and build global networks. The aim is for participants to also deepen their faith as they acquire knowledge and develop practical skills to address the climate crisis in a holistic manner. In this regard, the course will also address the intersections between climate change and racial, gender and economic injustices.
The program includes regular online meetings in small groups, helping to forge close bonds between people from different cultural or geographical backgrounds and fostering a collective and context-specific response to environmental challenges. During the second semester, participants will implement small-scale projects n their own communities.
The total cost of the program is USD 600, although applicants may apply for grants of up to USD 550. Participants must be able to speak English proficiently and commit to joining the virtual sessions.
