‘Mission in Context’ Revisited
‘Mission in Context’ Revisited
Interactions between context, theology and practice in the past and the future
This online conversation brings together key individuals who were instrumental in developing and implementing the landmark document "Mission in Context: Transformation, Reconciliation, Empowerment", published in 2004. Two decades on, these visionaries will revisit the document's understanding of holistic mission and practice, as well as its three foundational pillars.
Speakers:
- Rev. Dr. Péri Rasolondraibe, a prominent Malagasy Lutheran theologian and church leader, who served as LWF’s Director of the Department for Mission and Development (DMD) during the early 2000s.
- Rev. Dr. Priscilla Singh, a pastor of the Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church in India, who served as LWF Secretary for Women in Church and Society from 1998 to 2008.
- Moderated by Rev. Dr. Sivin Kit, LWF's current Director for Theology, Mission, and Justice.
Speakers will reflect on:
- The original vision behind a 'hermeneutical spiral' approach to mission that reflects the interaction between contexts, theology, and practice
- How the 'Mission in Context' framework has shaped Lutheran identity and practice
- The continued relevance of Transformation, Reconciliation and Empowerment in today's global challenges
- Critical trajectories for holistic mission in the next decade
This webinar offers a unique opportunity to hear firsthand accounts from those who shaped this influential work and their perspectives on the future of Lutheran contributions to mission in the 21st century.
