LWF Sunday - Strengthening Unity, Celebrating Diversity
2008 Focus on Climate Change
Gathering for worship, LWF Council in Turku, Finland |
The close connection between faith and worship is central for Lutherans. Joint prayer, giving thanks and praise act as a unifying force for the global communion’s 68.3 million Christians in 140 member churches. Lutheran World Federation Sunday, held on or around Reformation Sunday, serves to celebrate the rich diversity of LWF’s membership in 79 countries and its interconnection with the global Christian church.
A different focus each year highlights issues arising from Lutheran communion work and humanitarian commitment worldwide.
Member churches are encouraged to designate an LWF Sunday each year. Worship materials can be adapted for use in the respective context, interweaving with congregational resources, music, and traditions.
