Bishop Kameeta: People of Hope, Not Despair

In a colorful, music-filled thanksgiving service in Arusha, Tanzania, on June 29, Namibian bishop Zephania Kameeta urged worshippers to remain hopeful as followers of God - even when faced with suffering.
“Especially during the dark days of life, when we talk about the suffering of creation and about our own suffering, we should look back and remember the days when we experienced the kindness of God,” he reminded the congregation.
“You are the chosen people of God. You are not the people of despair, but you are the people of hope—also in difficult times. You are called to hope..” More...

LWF Council participants enjoyed the hospitality of several Lutheran Tanzanian congregations on June 29. Visits to Mtowamu, Kekiyambuzi Mungere and Esilatei provided opportunities for joint worship, fellowship and insights into work on the ground.
The service in Mtowamu included a sermon by Rev. Eberhard Hitzler, director of the LWF Department for World Service (DWS), who served for eight years as a missionary in the area.
Referring to Paul’s letter to the church in Corinth, Hitzler focused on love and the need to distinguish between a person and their respective works.
“With confidence we can declare together with the South African theologian Desmond Tutu that God loves wrongdoers, but God cannot abide or condone their works.” More...
